DarkFighter Technology: Ultra Low-Light Surveillance Without IR

How Hikvision DarkFighter cameras deliver full-color images in near-total darkness
Fisheye panoramic security camera guide

Introduction

Fisheye (panoramic) cameras use an ultra-wide-angle lens to capture a 180° or 360° view from a single unit. They are ideal for open areas where you want complete coverage without blind spots—and can replace multiple standard cameras, reducing total system cost.

How Fisheye Cameras Work

The fisheye lens captures a circular image covering the entire room or area. The camera’s processor or the NVR dewarps this image into multiple flat, rectangular views—simulating several virtual cameras from a single physical unit.

Advantages

One fisheye camera can replace 4–6 standard cameras, reducing cabling and hardware costs. There are no mechanical parts (unlike PTZ), so maintenance is minimal. Complete coverage means no blind spots and no gaps between overlapping camera views.

Limitations

Fisheye cameras are best suited for indoor, ceiling-mounted positions in spaces with moderate height (3–5 m). At very high ceilings, detail at the edges of the image degrades. They are not ideal for narrow corridors or long-distance outdoor monitoring.

Best Use Cases

Retail floors, hotel lobbies, conference rooms, reception areas, and small warehouse sections benefit most from fisheye cameras. They provide situational awareness and evidence footage for the entire space with a single device.

FastEgy Recommendation

Hikvision’s 12 MP fisheye cameras deliver exceptional dewarped image quality. We recommend them for open indoor areas where comprehensive coverage is more important than long-range detail. Contact FastEgy for a demo and placement advice.
